Isle of Wight October 2011

Eleven of us met at Seahorses, our accommodation for the weekend, on a fine cloudy Friday afternoon, for a flat walk alongside the Yar estuary, on a path which was formerly a railway line. The ground was dry and the tide was in, and we heard a curlew's plaintive cry as we approached Yarmouth. A brief visit to the little ...

Dovedale August 2011

Ten of us met in the Youth Hostel at Hartington for our Friday afternoon walk from the village. The weather was a little damp and misty but the countryside looked lovely as we passed the village pond and some lovely country gardens on our way along the valley towards Pilsbury.  We crossed the ford at Pilsbury and walked up through farmland towards ...

Rye walks and history May 2011

We all gathered at the River Haven Hotel to meet our Blue Badge Guide, Jane. It was a good way to start the holiday, to be told about the colourful history of Rye, one of the Cinque Ports, which had once been surrounded by the sea. Jane took us round the town and told us about the buildings, and some of the characters from ...

Cornwall September 2010

We stayed at The Bluff Centre where we were wonderfully looked after by Charlie and Marianne, who cooked us delicious and varied meals each evening, and set us up with lovely ...

Lulworth Cove July 2010

Cotswolds March 2010

A small group of us met at the Cleeve Hill House Hotel, for our first walk of the weekend. It was muddy following a week of rain, but it gave our legs a stretch after our journeys. We did a circuit of Nottingham Hill, walking out from the back of the hotel, and passing a beautifully refurbished equestrian centre. Then, ...

South Downs-Walking and Meditation April 2009

A super group of women enjoyed this retreat at Duncton Mill, with a varied programme of walks in and around the South Downs, where the woods were filled with bluebells and wild garlic, and the fields with lambs and calves. Gillian showed us a variety of different ways to try meditation, with exercises designed to facilitate this, in the light and airy apple loft, or in the lovely gardens of Duncton Mill. Delicious vegetarian meals were served to ...
